Abracadabra Pousada Buzios, Brazil *****
My friend Charlotte will be pleased to note that after a most wonderful experience with a Tablet Hotel, I have been fully converted to the boutique hotel ethos. For a harried consultant, escaping to the charming Abracadabra Pousada (Portuguese for “guesthouse”) was a much-needed respite from the hustle and bustle of city life. A three-hour bus ride through from Rio de Janeiro takes one through a verdant countryside of sun-dappled pastures and rolling hills, leading to the peaceful seaside town of Buzios. Here, beginning with a not-too sweet and not-too sour, just right sunset caipirinha (cocktail made from cachaça, sugar, and lime) on the hotel terrace, my true Brazilian food odyssey began.
